Right, poured myself a dram of this one. It’s a bold gold colour in the glass. First thing that hits you is the oak. Honestly, it’s a proper oak bomb. You get this wave of typical oak juice and sawdust, like walking into a woodwork shop. It’s frankly over-oaked for my taste, the wood just gets in the way a bit, leaving you with a very dry, almost pencil shavings kind of finish. Beneath that, there’s a rather spicy arrival. Bags and bags of cinnamon and a kick of ginger, almost like a spicy Christmas bread. Then there’s this weird but lovely hint of lavender and a touch of maple syrup sweetness trying to peek through, but it’s fighting against that gritty, drying wood. I’m getting a bit of custard and coconut cream too, if I really concentrate. The whole thing reminds me of an over-infused tea or bitter cocoa. It’s medium on the tongue, but leaves your mouth feeling very dry. It’s an experience, for sure. 🤔 Not bad, but you have to really love your oak.
