First thing that hits me is just... wood. Like, really very oaky. Almost like sucking on a plank, quite frankly over-oaked for my taste. It's so drying on the palate, a rather spicy arrival that turns into pencil shavings very quickly. Gets very dry and gritty in the middle. After a bit, some interesting notes pop up – Caraway bread maybe, and then bags and bags of cinnamon. It's like spicy bread sprinkled with custard, but more and more oak gets in the way of enjoying it. Finish is all bitter cocoa and that woody dryness. Whew. 🥃

This whisky's got a lot happening – first sip hits with zests and sunshine, feels bright. The oak comes through strong, but I'm not buying all this oak, it's a bit much for me. There's a tannicity that's like black tea, with a bitter edge that lingers. I get hints of caramel and flowers, like violets and lavender, which soften it. It's big enough to stand all this tannicity, I suppose. Tastes a little better as I go, with more action, and oddly reminds me of buckwheat crepes or rye. 🌅

Poured a nice dram of this, lovely gold colour in the glass. First sniff is... whoa, that's oak. And then more oak. It's like walking into a carpenter's workshop. First sip is a real spicy punch, like ginger and cinnamon. There's a sweetness underneath, a bit like maple syrup on a spicy bread. Really quite the experience. Honestly, the oak takes over quite aggressively as it goes on. A bit drying on the finish, almost like over-steeped tea leaves. Leaves you with that pencil shaving and sawdust note. A challenging one, for sure. 🥃
