Oh, just had a dram of that young Glen Spey, what a splendid surprise! First whiff has a bit of fresh rubber and citron, maybe fades a little on the nose after a moment. But then! Lashings of ripe papaya hit you, with a touch of shoe polish – sounds odd, but it works. Underneath, there's apples and bitter almonds, a stroke of genius, really. Got a subtle edge of pepper that keeps it interesting. Tried a splash of water and it just shifts sweetly towards candied treats. Delightful! The finish is long and fairly sweet, admirable stuff. Not a jot of vinosity here, just pure, unassuming charm. Barrique be damned, I say. Hurrah for a proper, fruity sipper. Makes you want to shout Eat apples! 🍎 Almost like finding a bottle of Spanish apple liqueur hiding in your whisky glass.

Fades a little on the nose at first, but give it a minute. Then it’s all Eat apples! and a faint nod to mezcal, which is a delightful surprise. Barrique be damned, this works. Not a jot of vinosity, just a subtle edge of pepper and lashings of ripe papaya. A splash of water opens it up—citron and bitter almonds come through, with a touch of shoe polish that’s oddly charming. Sweet wine cask influence is there, shifts sweetly towards candied treats, like Spanish apple liqueur. Long and fairly sweet finish. What fun this is! 🎉 A splendid surprise from an unassuming distillery. Hurrah for creative choices.

Blimey, what fun this is! At first, the aroma seemed to fade a little, leaving me curious. But the palate? Absolutely delightful. It’s from one of those unassuming distilleries you’d walk past, but they’ve pulled off a splendid surprise. There’s a hint of bitter almonds that quickly gives way to... eat apples! Green, crisp ones. And grapefruit, zesty and bright. They’ve used a sweet wine cask, a barrique, and it’s a stroke of genius. I get not a jot of that heavy vinosity, just this long, fairly sweet finish with a fleeting note of fresh rubber. Hurrah! 🍎 A right clever choice.
