Poured myself a dram the other night, and honestly, first thing I noticed was how pale it was - like a very pale white wine, barely any colour at all. Very young, you can tell straight away.
First sip and it's all apples at the front, loads of orchard fruits. Then there's this raw maltiness, kind of grainy, like barley water almost. Little touch of ginger creeping in, bit peppery on the finish which was rather long actually.
There's something chalky about it too, and a hint of coffee that surprised me. The distillate itself is fine though, you can tell the spirit's decent quality. Muscadet comes to mind - that light, crisp wine character.
Sweet and fruity all the way through, very typical young fruity Speysider. Rather sherried influence I reckon from the refill hogshead. Kind of immature but not in a bad way, just... young. Mother Nature hasn't had enough time with this one yet 😄
Not what I'd usually expect, honestly feels like the opposite of what I'd normally go for, but there's something charming about it. Those very young malt whiskies can be quite refreshing when you're in the mood for something lighter. The grains really shine through.
Ginger spice lingers nicely at the end 🥃
