This one poured a deep amber, and the first sniff was absolutely gorgeous – so much sherry, the way I like it. Immediately got Christmas cake, raisins, sultanas, a load of dried oranges, and a really refined honey note. It’s more complex than I expected. Taking a sip, it’s rather smooth, not burning at all. There’s a good and a bad sort of bitterness, if that makes sense – like the pith of an orange alongside roasted pecan nuts. That sherry sweetness is there, but something, maybe the age or a bit of extra-freshness, prevents it from being too ‘sticky’. Honestly, very, very nice. The finish is medium long. A little nervous energy still, it’s still a little rough around the edges which is amazing for its bold character. There are these faint smoky flavours that linger, nothing excessive, just a hint. Had I tasted it blind, I might have guessed there was a touch of rum in there, something like Barbancourt. All in all, this one is good. 👍

Right then, poured a dram of this deep amber liquid 🥃. Honestly, on the nose it’s got quite a lot going on – first I got a bit of that nervy, resinous varnish note, with whiffs of rubber and smoke, which makes you think. But underneath, there’s loads of sweet stuff: refined sherry, tons of dried oranges🍊 and raisins, even a hint of burnt caramel. Very, very nice. It’s got signs of a rather active cask, mind you. The taste follows on nicely with that lovely bitterness, still a bit of rubbery note but now more on caramel and cake. It’s extremely waxy, almost rum-like (Barbancourt?). What’s amazing is it gets hotter and hotter in a pleasant way, but is not burning at all, and that extra-freshness plus all the sultanas prevents it from being too ‘sticky’. The finish is medium long and, sure, still a little rough around the edges. Had I tasted it blind, I’d have been guessing a bit, but this one is good! ✨

Right then, just poured a glass 🥃 Smells proper sweet, like honey and dried fruit 🍯 First taste is warm... real smooth going down. Gets a bit spicy near the end, cinnamon maybe? 🌶️ Finish lingers nicely though. Makes you wanna sit by the fire 🔥 Definatly a good one for a rainy day. Cheers! 🍻
