Its colour is a lovely brown amber. Smells like pipe tobacco and something like an old basement floor – in a good way, oddly comforting. First sip is rich, almost a liquid chocolate hit, then it dries out like an ex-fresh sherry or bone-dry fino. Kind of oloroso-y dry, you know? Like damp earth after rain. Its got that classic earthy note, and yeah, rather peppery, with a tiny hint of leatheriness. Chocolaty extravaganza on the palate, reminds me of coffee liqueur mixed with sticky toffee pudding. Walnuts and dried fruits come through too. The aftertaste has clove and liquorice, a bit like walnut wine. Green peppercorn lingers. For me, it’s easier at 46%, lets all those flavours – tobacco, earth, chocolate – just hang out. Really rich, ten times better than I expected. Its got this similar vibe to old official 10 years old from 1990s, but maybe more… intensely chocolaty sherry. 🥃🍫
