Oh, this one's a proper winter dram. First sniff is like striking a match in an old library – a bit of sulphur, then it opens to pot-pourri and incense, almost like wandering into a Balinese temple at dusk.
Sipping it feels like autumn leaves and damp earth, really savoury, with umami-esque mushrooms and leather coming through. Then, surprisingly, there's this sweet blend of Spanish brandy and Demerara rum notes – prunes, good caramel, walnuts, and a hint of bitter oranges.
The finish is long and sooty, leaning into Armagnac territories. Very armagnacky and spicier than expected, with ginger and a touch of sweet pipe tobacco. It's exceptional, really powerful. 😌
Such an interesting, oh-so uncommercial find.
