Whiskyspace Notes 1514

Right so I poured a dram of this one tonight — poured it neat, gold colour, looks absolutely massive in the glass 🥃 First thing that hits me is this tarry smoke, quite coastal actually, reminds me of walking along the harbour when the boats are in. Then there's hay, and herbs — loads of herbal character, honestly. Curiously softer than I expected given how fat and huge the whisky feels in the mouth. Less sherry than I'd normally go for, less chocolate too, less tobacco. But the wormwood really comes through, and the liquorice — proper liquoricy stuff, almost like artisan absinthe. There's resinous notes as well, and something a bit ashy, like an old candle that's been burning all night. Getting some dry herbs and cough drops too, weirdly specific but it's there. And there's this one note I can only describe as linoleum 😅 sounds odd but it works. The whole thing kinda works in sync though, if that makes sense. It's getting a little smokier the longer it sits. There's a hint of salted chestnut honey underneath which balances that dryness out. Almost more absinth than whisky character, on the Chinese side of herbal medicine vibes. Not what I'd call a grands crus dram exactly, but bloody hell it's interesting. Just sitting here with it and it keeps changing 👀
