Right, so this one’s a youngish sherried Macduff. Nose is a bit all over the place – bitter oranges straight off, then this whiff of burnt chocolate cake just out the oven, the edges all singed. There’s a chalky, grassy side lurking under it too, and a faint grapefruit pith thing. Ginger definitely. And a funny struck-match note, which is… quite strange. Tasting it, it’s another funny one entirely. Lemon drops at first, then it turns very unusual – almost fizzy and prickly after a few seconds on the tongue. Then it shifts into toasted brioche and fresh bread, but there’s this Campari-like bitterness, like a ginger tonic where the bitter oranges have become bigger, louder. The finish is quite long, still that pithy, spiky ginger hanging about. An oddball, really. 🤨
