Took a sip of this last night and my first thought was how it just sort of... unfolds.
On the nose, there was this lovely sharp lemon zest, almost making you think of a dry cider apple. 🌬️ Then in the glass, it opened up with this greater breadth, you know? That hint of petrol-like Riesling character came through, which I actually found intriguing.
Taking a sip, the impact of just three extra degrees was noticeable—it warms you right up, but in a good way. The flavour had this sleek and precise quality to it. I got that impression of having just swallowed a small oyster, a salty, seaside air thing, with a bit of seaweed at low tide mixed in with wet newspapers. Oddly specific, but that’s what came to mind. There’s a little hint of barley syrup sweetness that balances it all out.
The finish is rather long, trailing off with these peppery, herbaceous notes and just the faintest whisper of ashes and ink. The peat never intrudes, which I appreciated. It’s a complex one, for sure. 👍
