First sip, pours out a lovely gold colour. Nosing it, I get these sexy lemony notes and some peculiar coastal notes, like a hint of sea breeze. Interesting. Taste-wise, it’s a bit of a journey. There’s a lovely slightly smoky lime and lemon up front, then some wax and lemongrass come through. It’s got that coastal thing going on, a bit of sea water and a wee earthiness. Honestly, at first, it feels a bit ‘too much’ – strong black tea and peppered grapefruits. But then it settles. This baby really likes water, a few drops open it up nicely. The honey and peppermint emerge more, and that very creamy mouth feel becomes clear. The oak started to take over after a while, with some fresh oak and burnt wood. Not a big, roaring malt whisky, but a big spirit for sure. The finish is rather long, with that charcoal and hessian note lingering. Overall, it works. Not unpleasant at all, very okay now it’s opened up.
