Right, just had a dram. It's got this lovely gold colour. First hit's slightly smoky, but then you get this hit of dried stuff. Like old walnuts and those dried wild mushrooms you find in posh shops. There's a real tobacco note, almost like fresh tobacco juice. Reminds me of an old leather chair. It's quite brutal at first, not gonna lie. But then it opens up. Very malty, with a hint of that manzanilla sourness. Weirdly, it makes me think of Maggi sauce and umami. That savoury note hangs around. There's a horseradish kick there too, almost like mustard. Pairs a bit like bitter beers, oddly enough. It's a proper conversationalist, this one. You notice the leathery/tobacco-y notes more with every sip. Can be a bit too much and heavy/pushy if you're not in the mood, but it swims very well with a drop of water. Gets gentler then. A bit of fruit skins and that weird mercurochrome note comes through. Spicy, like those whacky curries you get. The finish is very long. Dried stuff lingers... oranges concentrate... morels and stuff. An amazing conversationalist indeed. 🥃
