Popped the cork and gave it a good sniff – immediately thought of old school IPA and pressed flowers, weirdly. A bit hessian cloth and brown bread. First sip, wooft. Quite a fighter at this ABV, proper peppery heat straight away. Jagged edges, sharp and punchy, then it settles into this plain toasted cereals thing. Humble but charmingly natural malt whisky, really. Very simple, very grains-forward. Mid-palate there’s a lactic sweetness, like sunflower oils and a cheeky sip of milk stout. Reminds me of those old shilling ales, light beers but brighter and punchier. Honestly, functional malt whisky done right. Medium in length, not a million miles from the old OB. Quite enjoyed that.
