Blimey, this one's a proper adventure. First thing I get is a big Partagas cigar and a fresh pack of pipe tobacco, right there with some leather and Spanish ham. Then it shifts - salted and smoked almonds, a bit of that office coffee bitterness and raw chocolate. Strangely, there's something of mussels and dried kelp in there, which is odd but it sort of works. It's quite bittersweet, with some very bitter orange and marmalade notes, maybe even a touch of cranberry sauce. Get some black olives and blackberry jam too, with a nice sherry and raisin sweetness. It's got a thickish mouth feel and a long finish with perfect pepper. A little too harsh when neat, I'd say - water is absolutely queen here. A few drops do wonders, really opens it up and tames that edge. Superb when reduced. Honestly, it's a strange combo that ends up working a tango to perfection. 🥃
