Had a wee dram last night that was just lovely. Much fruitier than I remember – apples at first, then a note straddling gin and soap, but in a way that works? 🌿 There’s this rather improbable red wine thing drifting through, mixed with wet clay and cut grass. Lemons zip about, and it’s got a light white wine vibe, less ‘dirty’ than some coastal malts. A smoky edge, just a touch of beer, and crushed shells on the nose. Some overly sulphured old sherry casks must’ve been involved because I get a faint whiff of mashed swede – weird but it hangs together. The whole thing is focused on apples, but with this whisper of something magical, like those Campbeltown whiskies folk go on about, though I won’t name names. Plenty of ashes and a fairly long finish that clings with salty, sooty fruit. Cracking stuff. 🥃
