Popped the cork on this one last night and honestly, it’s a proper wee treat. Totally uncomplicated but perfectly classy and even distinguished, like finding a tailored tweed jacket in a charity shop. First sniff brings a funny mix — golden delicious apples and lemon, but right behind it, this faint ‘burnt’ note in the background. Almost like someone’s charring gherkins on a barbecue that’s gone out a bit. There’s a whisper of plasticine too, that nostalgic primary school smell, weirdly comforting. Sip it and it’s elementary smoked malt, straightforward but lovely. A drift of smoked salmon, oily and rich, then a sudden tincture of iodine, very Islay–like a light mezcal from Islay doing a gentle coastal walk. Mid-palate there’s artichokes and a flicker of burning charcoal, all wrapped up in a dry white wine freshness. Not trying too hard, just doing its thing beautifully. ☺️ One of those wee whiskies you pour for a mate without any fuss.
