Right then, let’s have a proper nosing… deep gold in the glass, like old polished copper. First whiff and it’s not shouting fresh fruit at you at all – instead, there’s this gorgeous, thick-cut orange marmalade on heavily toasted bread. Proper malty backbone, too. That’s masterful, that is. On the sip it’s sumptuous but almost austere with it – the sweetness is kept on a tight leash. It’s evolved amazingly, honestly. The maritime, salty side just rolls in: seashells, a bit of meaty crab shell, faint kelp drying on a rock. Not quite full-on shellfish bisque, but close. There’s a slightly bitter twist at the end, like chicory root, which I love. Only thing, the finish goes just very slightly short for me – it’s there and then it’s gone, leaving this lingering saltiness and a ghost of orange. Still, very moreish. 🌊🍊
