Had a wee dram of something that turned into a right unusual adventure 🧐 Nose was pure beeswax and old waxes, straight out of a 1970s dusty cupboard, then this flood of mead—like cracking an ancient bottle of the stuff. A whiff of mirabelles too, those ripe plums dipped in honey. Then the sip… laughably short fruity arrival, a flash of Meursault-like polish and juicy plums, gone in a blink. Immediately turns dry and bitterish, mentholated straw with metallic touches creeping in. Mid-palate goes all Fernet-Branca—mustardy notes and a hint of cigarette tobacco, proper un-Balvenie territory. Pretty sketchy honestly, borderline weird. But the finish? Long, surprisingly very nice. That old mead and wax vibe returns, softens into something with many charms. Feels like drinking a ghost from the ’70s. Not what I expected at all, but I kept going back for another sniff.
