Had a wee dram of this and blimey, it’s extremely different from Lagavulin or Caol Ila – not that seaside campfire heavy thing at all. Right off the bat it’s pure, almost white in spirit, young and a bit dusty on the nose, like opening an old cupboard in a bothy. There’s this malt unlike any other, weirdly buttery but then a sudden hit of fish oil and dandelion salad, lemon drops dipped in tarry brine, something rubbery and chemical floating round the edges. Very tarry, actually. On the palate it’s lower strength, medium, and oddly constrained – feels like it wants to say more but holds back, imprecise. Vegetables? Yeah, slightly stewed veg note, bizarre sweets that aren’t quite lemony, more like lemon juice splashed on a tarred rope. It’s a charming drop in a wonky way, wonderfully ‘PE’, but the finish is a bit of a coitus interruptus – Slightly frustrating aftertaste, flirts with big flavours then just… stops. Like a tune cut short. 😑
